Math 7 - Kelly Wood
Teaching Textbooks

Prerequisite: Math 6; mastery of multiplication facts 

Students new to The Training Center will be required to complete a placement test to determine the class placement that is best for the student to progress successfully in math. 

This course is foundational to higher math classes. We will cover multiplication/division of whole numbers, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing of fractions, decimals, percents, using a calculator, basic geometry, probability, and setting up word problems. Concepts for the week will be studied in class along with completion of each lesson’s practice problems. Students will then be ready to work assigned lessons and chapter tests at home. Parents should monitor homework each day making sure lessons are completed. Expected time outside of class each week: 2-3 hours. There will be lessons due on the first day of class. 

Tuition is $50 per month (July through April) with a one-time $75 supply/printing fee due in July. The first payment must include the supply fee. Supply fee details. 

Payment options: Your student is not registered until one of the following three payment methods is confirmed. Full year payments are not accepted. 

  1. Ten post-dated checks to be deposited on the 1st of each month.
  2. Scheduled monthly bank payments. You must turn in a document showing the payments are scheduled for the 10 months.
  3. Two checks. One dated July 1 and the other dated December 1.

Pre-Algebra – Kelly Wood
Prerequisite: Math 7

This course covers topics including scientific notation, metric unit conversions, rational expressions, operations with algebraic fractions, exponents, basic geometry, statistics & probability. Concepts for the week will be studied in class along with completion of each lesson’s practice problems. Students will then be ready to work assigned lessons and chapter tests at home. Expected time outside of class each week: 3-4 hours. There will be lessons due on the first day of class. 

Tuition is $55 per month (July through April) with a one-time $75 supply/printing fee due in July. The first payment must include the supply fee. Supply fee details.

Teaching Textbooks is a unique math program written specifically for homeschoolers in an easy-to-digest conversational tone. This course covers simple equations, negative numbers, fractions, powers, roots, second degree equations, graphing, solving systems of equations, inequalities, and irrational numbers.

We will be using the Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1 – 4.0 which is an online program. The computer program will grade the student’s homework and tests. In-class quizzes and mid-term/final will be used to help assess the student’s learning and will be graded by the teacher.

Note **There will be lessons assigned and due on the first day of class.

You will have access to a digital book and instructional videos but will not receive a hard copy of the book or CDs. You will need to have a computer, laptop or tablet for the student to complete their assignments. There will be a scheduled day to walk through the installation and set-up of the Teaching Textbooks 4.0 app.  If you have *multiple students, you will need to purchase this for each student.

How does this course work? First, students will follow the class syllabus throughout the year. Concepts for the week will be reviewed in class along with practice problems for the week. Students will then be ready to work assigned lessons and chapter tests at home. Homework is graded by the computer program. Secondly, in-class quizzes will be given to monitor students’ progress. Grades will be kept on the schoology website for easy access. Finally, a one-time $25 copy/supply fee is due upon registration. This fee will cover the printing of handouts and quizzes given to students and parents throughout the year.

Prerequisite: Pre-Algebra.  (Current TTC students must have demonstrated proficiency on the final test otherwise participation in placement testing will be required. New TTC math students must take a placement test. )  This will determine which class is needed for the student to progress successfully in math. Students should have a firm handle on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts including with negative numbers. They should be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions with ease before taking Algebra I.  Required: A TI-30XS calculator (at minimum). Those that plan to take Algebra II and Geometry should consider buying a TI-83 Plus or TI-84 calculator for all 3 classes. Supplies: Students will need a 2 or 3 inch -3 ring binder with 5 divider tabs.

Note: There will be homework to complete before the first class, which is material covered in Pre-Alg. Plan to allow time during August for this to be completed. This will allow the class to have more time on the new material covered in the second half of the year.  If a student struggles with this, consider pre-algebra again.

Class is offered at two times: 

Mondays from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon at Gracepoint Church

Tuesdays from 2:00 – 3:15 p.m. at Hope Church

 Tuition is $550 for the year, split into 10 payments of $55 (due Jul 2023-Apr 2024).  A copy fee of $25 is due in July. As we often turn students away, once you have reserved your space, there will be no refunds given after July 1.

Payment options: (Indicate on your registration form which one you would like to use:

1) Write 10 post-dated checks to be cashed each month (Jul 2023-Apr 2024) The first check dated July 1 is $80 because it includes the supply/copy fee.  The remaining 9 checks are $55.

2) Set up auto payments with your bank to arrive at the 1st of the month beginning in July. The first payment of $80 is due with registration to hold your spot.

3) Pay for entire year by semester (1st semester ($300) dated July 1, and 2nd semester ($275) dated Dec 1).

Algebra 2 - Corinne Park
Expected time outside of class each week needed for preparation and homework will average between 4 – 5 hours.

We will be using the Teaching Textbooks Algebra 2 – 4.0 which is an online program. The computer program will grade the student’s homework and tests. In-class quizzes and mid-term/final will be used to help assess the student’s learning and will be graded by the teacher.

Concepts for the week will be studied in class along with completion of the lesson practice problems. Students will then be ready to work assigned lessons and chapter tests at home. Expected time outside of class each week: 4 – 5 hours.

Applied Mathematics for High School - Kelly Wood
Prerequisite: Algebra 1

This is a practical course for the student who may not want to take more advanced math classes, needs an additional math credit, or finally wants an answer to “When will I ever use this in real life?!” We will review basic math skills like decimals, percents, operations with integers and measurement. Then we will apply those skills to real life situations like calculating change for customers, discounts, banking, budgeting, car loans, rent, mortgages, insurance, tax preparation and more. This class will utilize projects for application of many of the concepts and will require going to places like the grocery store, a bank, etc. to complete the projects. Expected time outside of class each week: 2-3 hours.
