History – 4th-6th – Mistie Angelo

The Story of the World is the curriculum used for this class. So, you will need to purchase Volume 1: Ancient Times and Volume 2: The Middle Ages. We will be starting right where we left off this past year. Having said that, if your child did not take this class the previous year, he or she will be able to pick up right where we start at because the topics will continue to rotate over a three-year schedule. 

 Class time will consist of a short PowerPoint presentation with video clips, group discussion, an interactive notebook, followed by a craft or game. Homework will be to read one or two short chapters, answer chapter questions, and complete chapter maps. 

This is not a graded class, but I do go over all homework and make any corrections needed.  

 A supply list will be available in July. There will be a $25.00 supply fee. The supply fee will cover all crafts and games. Classes will be $45.00 per month for ten months. 

 To register, please fill out the Training Center registration form and mail it along with your $70.00 ($45 for July + supply fee) payment dated July 1, 2023 (first tuition payment) and Aug. 1 payment. Once these items have been received, this will hold your child’s spot in the class.  

 The ONLY payment options for this class:  

  1. Write 9 post-dated checks to be cashed at the first of the month (August 2023-April 2024)
  2. Pay for the entire year. 
  3. Pay with 2 post-dated checks for each semester (1st semester dated July 1 and 2nd semester dated Dec. 1, 2023). 

All post-dated checks must be received before the 1st day of class (preferably the day of orientation). No refunds will be given for canceling the class after July 1st.

Curriculum: The Texas God Created, Student Text (Third Edition) By: Dana Buckley

Required Time Outside Class: Approximately two to three hours each week.

The Texas God Created shows the Providence of God throughout Texas History. As we study this text, students will find that many of the Texas founding fathers were Christians. We will cover many exciting topics as we journey through this curriculum together. The topics include: The Geography of Texas, The Earliest Texas Residents, Spanish Texas, Americans Come to
Texas, March to Revolution, and From Independence to the 21st Century. Students will also gain a better understanding of how to use geographic tools.
Our class time will be spent reviewing reading materials using PowerPoint presentations, watching videos, playing trivia games to help students retain information, reading, highlighting and discussing the vocabulary and text in depth. Students will also participate in a variety of hands-on enrichment activities, research topics, and projects in order to make Texas History
come to life.

Cost of Class: Tuition for this class is $500 per year plus a $35 supply fee/copy fee. The supply fee is due with the July payment. Parents are also responsible for purchasing the textbook, 1.5-inch 3-ring binder, 5 dividers, a black sharpie and map pencils.

American History – Grades 7th–8th - Heidi Webb

Class Description:

This course will explore the story of our nation’s history. Emphasis will be placed on the forces, events, issues, and people that have shaped our nation from pre-Columbus days to our current society. There will also be instruction on the role various Presidencies have played in forming our American History. We will also be looking at different regions of the United States and learning the location of each state in that region. Quizzes and tests are given both in class and on the online platform, Schoology. Research reports, class projects, and class presentations are also required of the student.

 Curriculum:

A Beka History Series, America Land I Love, Student Text (3rd Edition), ISBN: 20170701, No other books will be needed.

Supply List:

2″ or 3″ 3 ring binder, binder dividers with tabs, college ruled loose-leaf notebook paper, pencils, and pens, highlighters of any color, a set of unlined 3×5 index cards, and a poster board (white) will be needed for Lesson 4.

 Class Time:

One hour of class instruction per week. The expected time outside of class each week needed for preparation and homework is about 3 hours.

 Cost of class:
Tuition is $450 for the year, split into 10 payments of $45 (due July 1, 2023 – April 1, 2024) and a one-time $35 supply/copy fee due along with the July payment. So, an $80 first-time payment just for July. The July payment holds your child’s spot in my class and will also cover the first week of May 2024. Geography - High School - Kelly Wood

Prerequisite: experience writing high school level essays

Geography is a high school level course. Students will be expected to write 2-5 paragraph essays and give oral presentations. It is a foundational class that helps students form a mental map of the world. Beginning in North America, students will “travel” from continent to continent around the world studying the geography, culture, landforms, climates, resources, economy, religions, and government of each country. We will also learn about unreached people groups. Students will need access to the internet to complete some assignments.  Expected time outside of class each week: 3-4 hours.

Tuition is $55 per month (July through April) with a one-time $50 supply/printing fee due in July. The first payment must include the supply fee. 

Payment options: Your student is not registered until one of the following three payment methods is received/confirmed. Full year payments are not accepted. 

  1. Ten post-dated checks to be deposited on the 1st of each month.
  2. Scheduled monthly bank payments. You must turn in a document showing the payments are scheduled for the 10 months.
  3. Two checks. One dated July 1 and the other dated December 1.

This class will begin with an overview of North America’s major indigenous nations and their first interactions with European explorers and go all the way through to Modern America. 

 Class time will consist of PowerPoints, short video clips, note taking, and interactive class activities. The first portion of the class will be instructional, ending with fun, engaging activities centered around what we have been learning. Students must have a phone to be able to participate in some of the research-based activities during class. 

 CLASS COMMUNICATION & ASSIGNMENTS – Internet needed: Google Classroom is the platform used. 

 No textbook will be needed. Some homework will be digital assignments (research based), while others will be a standard worksheet style with reading material attached. You must have a printer to be able to print out all homework assignments. 

Expected time outside class each week needed for homework: 2 – 3 hours. 

A supply list will be available in July. The $25 supply fee will cover all printing costs for the guided notes and the different activities done during class. Classes will be $55.00 per month for ten months.

Why study American Government? Did our Founding Fathers create a democracy or a republic? Why should I care about politics? Does my vote really matter? Does government really touch our daily lives? This course requires students to use their critical thinking skills as we debate our system of government from a Christian perspective and role play the founders of our great nation. The Constitution and original documents of the framers will be analyzed and studied to determine the intent of the Founding Fathers. The structure of our federal government, along with state and local governments will also be discussed. Civil rights and liberties, campaigns and elections, politics, and policy considerations facing our nation will also be examined.

A deeper understanding of economics is what this course is all about. In this one-semester study, students will be asked to utilize their critical thinking skills to delve into the basic principles of economics from a Christian perspective. Supply and demand, free markets, inflation, as well as the history of economics and economic theories will be studied and analyzed. Personal financial responsibility and planning will also be examined. How does government impact the economy? What do society and morality have to do with economics?
