ART CLASSES

Art 1 (Ages 9 - 11) - Cindy Johnson

We begin with a short study of art history. We will study shifts in style to see art in the flow of history. Students will learn begin to understand how to be good judges of art. We look at a lot of pictures of great art and discuss them. Students always enjoy this and it doesn’t take them long to form and state their own opinions!

After this, the class is hands-on as we learn the basic elements of art: space, line, shape, texture, value, etc, using color and learning more complex techniques. We will have lessons in things like pencil, art pens, watercolor, collage, sculpture, metal embossing, plaster and many other surprises. Students will learn how to see, and how to draw what they see. They will draw from real objects, copy great works, and use their imaginations. There will be many surprises and games thrown in to keep them guessing and excited.

As I get many repeat customers, I change classes continually so the identical class the following year will be completely different. Students may take the same class for years in a row and still benefit.

Students will be asked to bring easy-to-obtain supplies to class and purchase some initial supplies; all other materials I will hand out for them to keep as the year progresses.

Homework: 1-2 hours per week, depending on student’s personal interest.

Tuition is $50.00/month for ten months and is due beginning in July.  You may pay one of four ways:  1) Set up a bank draft to arrive at the first of each month,  2) Write ten post-dated checks, 3) Pay the entire year at once, or 4) Zelle.  $50.00 x 10 months = $500.00.  There is an $80.00 supply fee for each semester, totaling $160.00, so if you want to pay for the entire year, it would be $660.00.

As we often turn students away once you have reserved your space, there will be no refunds given after July 1.

Art 2 (Ages 12 - 14) - Cindy Johnson

Class begins with a study of art history. Study will be similar to that as stated in Art 1, but much more in-depth. We will progress through time periods covering Christian, Byzantine, Pre-Renaissance, Renaissance, Reformation, Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, etc. up to modern times. We will continually discuss how to distinguish worthy art from bad art – not just fine arts, but books, movies, music, etc. and discuss current events in the art world.
The class is hands-on, learning the elements of art. During the year, we will use materials like pencils, artists’ pens, watercolors, metal embossing, prints, plaster and encounter many surprises along the way. Students will learn how to see, and how to draw what they see. They will draw from life, copy great works, manipulate and use pictures and photos, and draw from their imaginations. My goal is to help them become creative people in all areas, understand and not be intimidated by art, and become people that can creatively communicate to the world.
There will be weekly assignments. Grading will NOT apply to a student’s artistic ability, but completion of assigned work. Students will be asked to bring easy-to-obtain supplies to class and purchase some initial supplies; all other materials I will hand out for them to keep as the year progresses.
As my students return year after year, I change lessons continually. A student may take the same class repeatedly and benefit greatly.
Homework: 1-2 hours/week
