Math 6 - Corinne Park
Math 6

Prerequisites: basic addition, subtraction, multiplication facts, & division; There is a placement test online at www.teachingtextbooks.com to help assess if the student is ready for this course.

This course will cover long division, fractions, decimals, percents, geometry, measurement and graphing.  Homework is to be graded by the student/parent. Parents should monitor their student’s homework each day making sure lessons are completed. All quizzes and tests will be graded by the teacher.

Expected time outside of class each week: 4 – 5 hours.

You will need to purchase the following: (there are two options)
1) Purchase the Math 6 Teaching Textbooks 2.0 student book & answer key/test bank only
2) Purchase the Math 6 Teaching Textbooks 2.0 student book, answer/key test bank & and CD-ROMS to see solutions worked out for every problem.

Pencil and red pen for grading

Class is offered on Wednesdays from 1:45-2:45 p.m.

Tuition is $400 for the year, split into 10 payments of $40 (due Jul 2020-Apr 2021).  A copy fee of $25 is due in July. As we often turn students away, once you have reserved your space, there will be no refunds given after July 1.

Payment options:

1) Write 10 post-dated checks to be cashed each month (Jul 2020-Apr 2021)

2) Set up auto payments with your bank to arrive at the 1st of the month

3) Pay for entire year by semester (1st semester ($225) dated July 1, and 2nd semester ($200) dated Dec 1, 2020).

Math 7 - Kelly Wood

This course covers long multiplication and division of whole numbers, and adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and reducing fractions. Also covered are decimals, percents, using a calculator, basic geometry concepts and probability. Concepts for the week will be studied in class along with the completion of the lesson practice problems. Students will then be ready to work assigned lessons and chapter tests at home. Homework is to be graded by the student/parent. Parents should monitor their student’s homework each day making sure lessons are completed. All tests will be graded by the teacher. This course covers many topics including scientific notation, metric unit conversions, rational
expressions, adding, subtracting, multiplying, & dividing algebraic fractions, powers, polynomials, basic geometry, graphing, statistics & probability. Concepts for the week will be studied in class along with the completion of the lesson practice problems. Students will then be ready to work assigned lessons and chapter tests at home. Homework is to be graded by the student/parent. Parents should monitor their student’s homework each day making sure lessons are completed. All tests will be graded by the teacher. Required time outside of class: 3-4 hours per week

Algebra 1 - Corinne Park
Algebra 1

Teaching Textbooks is a unique math program written specifically for homeschoolers in an easy-to-digest conversational tone. This course covers simple equations, negative numbers, fractions, powers, roots, second degree equations, graphing, solving systems of equations, inequalities, and irrational numbers. There are two options for parents to choose from: 1) purchase book, answer key/test bank only or 2) additionally purchase the audiovisual CD’s to see solutions worked out for every problem. Students will need to have the book to use in class so do not use only the online version 3.0.  Please check the Teaching Textbooks web-site at teachingtextbooks.com.

How does this course work? First, students will follow the class syllabus throughout the year. Concepts for the week will be reviewed in class along with the practice problems for the week. Students will then be ready to work assigned lessons and chapter tests at home. Homework is to be graded by the student/parent. All tests will be graded by the teacher. Secondly, in-class quizzes will be given to monitor students’ progress. Grades will be kept on the schoology website for easy access. Finally, a one-time $25 supply fee is due upon registration. This fee will cover the printing of chapter tests and handouts given to students and parents throughout the year.

Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Pre-Algebra. Students should have a firm handle on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. They should be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions with ease before taking Algebra I. Required: A TI-30XS calculator (at minimum). Those that plan to take Algebra II and Geometry should consider buying a TI-83 Plus or TI-84 calculator for all 3 classes. Supplies: Students will need a 2 or 3 inch 3 ring binder with tabs.

Expected time outside of class each week needed for preparation and homework will average between 4 – 5 hours.

There are two options for parents to choose from: 1) purchase book, answer key/test bank only or 2) additionally purchase the audiovisual CD’s to see solutions worked out for every problem. Since students will sometimes use the book in class and need it for reference, do not purchase only the 3.0 version. Please check the Teaching Textbooks web-site at teachingtextbooks.com.

This course covers inductive/deductive reasoning, lines, angles, triangles, inequalities, quadrilaterals, polygons, trigonometry, circles, and coordinate geometry. Concepts for the week will be studied in class along with the completion of the lesson practice problems. Students will then be ready to work assigned lessons and chapter tests at home. Homework is to be graded by the student/parent. Parents should monitor their student’s homework each day making sure lessons are completed. All tests will be graded by the teacher. Expected time outside of class each week: 4 – 5 hours.

You will need to purchase the following textbooks: (there are two options)
Geometry proofs can be challenging for many students. I do recommend the CDs for help.

2) Purchase the Geometry Teaching Textbooks 2.0 student book, answer/key test bank & and CD-ROMS to see solutions worked out for every problem.
